Clots of colour that convey movement to the surfaces, harmonious and placid shapes that spread out over space or fold over into themselves… Luca Schiavon’s creations suggest the inner calm that characterises oriental philosophy and mirror an aesthetic taste founded on a feeling for abstraction, and delicate and vibrant chromatic choices.
Born in Abano Terme, he is the son of the famous ceramic artist Elio Schiavon and the painter and decorator Linda Metta. His early training was shaped by a long stay in Japan, where he learned the techniques and styles of local masters, especially of Hideo Tarasawa.
Luca Schiavon is particularly interested in clays for high temperature firing, gres stoneware and porcelain. The shapes arising from slab, moulding and lathing techniques become elements that the artist cuts and assembles into sculptural units. His research is characterised by formal strictness and a clear interest for geometrical shapes.
The colour glazing used in Luca Schiavon’s pieces stem from ongoing experimentation. Firm and smooth surfaces alternate with dynamically shaped volumes, where light is entrusted the task of making them vibratile and light.
